This adventure will be a driving trip departing from Osborn Metropark. Attendees will need to be dropped off at Osborn at 8 am to load into the rental van to begin this 12 hour drive to Duluth, Minnesota. This is a long drive but we will make plenty of comfort stops along the route. A pre-ordered boxed lunch will be provided as well as, snacks and beverages. Dinner will be at a stop en route. Check in to our lodging in Duluth, Minnesota upon arrival around 9 PM.

An early start from the hotel for the next few days will take us up to Sax-Zim Bog and Superior National Forest where we will target specialty species along the roads and at feeding stations such as:

Other birds and mammals are also possible such as porcupines, pine martin, red fox and maybe even Boreal Owl, Varied Thrush, Snowy Owl and Canadian Lynx . Depending on current sightings we will target these rarities if needed.

Box lunches will be pre-ordered and picked up the morning of our trip to the bog since there are few places to find food near the bog. Lunch at cafe near the Superior National Forest for day two. Days three/four will be a wrap up and hunting down of any missed species or in case of a weather delay. Lunch to be determined.

Evening dinners will be at local restaurants in the Duluth area.

Departure from Duluth will be at 7AM for our 12 hour drive home. There will be multiple comfort breaks and a lunch and dinner stop en route. Arrival back at Osborn Metropark approximately 8PM.

"February in Minnesota? Are you Crazy?" To most people this sounds like a terrible idea. To those of us with an appreciation for nature and a love of birds it is paradise.  The stunning array of hard to find birds coupled with beautiful scenery makes this trip one to remember. We will hunt down some of the most sought after bird species in the lower 48 states on this five day-four night trip to the bogs and forests of Minnesota.  Weather and temperature can be brutal but the length of our trip enables us the ability to be flexible giving us the best chance to see these gorgeous birds. Much of this trip will be within our warm vehicle with forays out to feeding stations, scenic stops and bird sightings. Believe me, the van empties out quickly when a Great Gray Owl is spotted no matter how cold it is.

Having travelled to this area many times before I have a detailed knowledge of the species distribution and specialty locations.  We will also target any stray vagrants or rare birds in the vicinity of this trip. There is space for seven participants on this adventure.
